A good garden workout

A good garden workout

Let’s face it. There are quite a few reasons why many of us skip going to the gym, or avoid the place all together. Sometimes it’s just not financially viable when you really won’t make the most of it. And sometimes sweating away, losing weight or trying to get fit in front of total strangers can seem a little daunting. Whilst it’s great to get out there, face your fears and be amongst likeminded folk, there’s nothing better than a good old garden workout at home!

If you have a Malvern Garden Buildings summerhouse, it does make the perfect place to create a home gym. You don’t need too much fancy equipment if that’s not what you’re into. You could set up a simple yoga mat and serene space to practice, or get yourself set up with some music or a TV and leave the rest of the space to dance, Zumba and get that heart pumping with some aerobics!

But, why stay indoors when you can have all the wonderful benefits of a workout with the glorious view of your garden?

So many benefits: In a recent study, working out outdoors was associated with greater feelings of revitalization, increased energy and positive engagement, together with decreases in tension, confusion, anger and depression. Participants also reported greater enjoyment and satisfaction with outdoor activity.

Fresh air: So many of us are confined to a desk day in, day out. Even if we are not, there aren’t many of us that get to spend much of our day outside. So spending workout time inside a gym decreases that time even more! By working out in the garden we can expose ourselves to the wonderful benefits of natural light and the Vitamin D we all lack in this country. Not to mention the lungful after lungful of fresh air.

No equipment needed: If you’re new to exercise and aren’t sure what’s best for you, then you needn’t even buy any equipment! Star jumps, press ups, sit ups, even doing laps of the garden will burn those calories. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, get your favourite radio station on and have a good old boogie. You’ll have so much fun and won’t even realise how hard you’re working (until you sit down to catch your breath, that is).

So, if you need some motivation to get fit, just take a look in your garden! It has a whole world of possibilities waiting for you get out there and get moving!
