Meet Tropical Plants UK
Established 25 years ago by Mike and Jenny Opperman, Tropical Plants UK is a family run business based in Lincolnshire. They produce over 2 million houseplants each year and are one of the few businesses in the UK to grow tropical plants. The team have enlisted the expertise of Sarah J Hatherill of Well Street for their Houseplant Studio design; Keep Calm – Grow British. The design will showcase how plants can transform an ordinary office space into a healthy, serene sanctuary, whilst promoting the importance of sustainable growing and backing British horticulture.
A passion for buying British houseplants
The team at Tropical Plants UK are keen to educate the public on the benefits of keeping houseplants and buying British, to reduce our nation’s carbon footprint.
They source young plant materials from around the world and propagate, monitor and nurture the plants carefully until they are ready to grow fully in the appropriate growing conditions at their Lincolnshire based nursery. Once ready, the plants are sold direct to consumers.
Tropical Plants UK is part of Opperman Plants Ltd, a leading wholesale supplier for garden centres and supermarkets nationwide.
Keep Calm – Grow BritishRHS Silver Gilt Medal Winner
Tropical Plants UK have teamed up with designer Sarah J Hatherill of Well Street to showcase how plants can transform an ordinary office space into a healthy, serene sanctuary, whilst promoting the importance of sustainable growing and backing British horticulture.
Their design; Keep Calm – Grow British will launch at Chelsea Flower Show and will use the Studio Pavilion with veranda.
With the increasing aspiration to create healthy environments, in a world where living and workspaces are becoming smaller, we have to utilise what limited space we have for numerous day-to-day functions.
“In the last few years especially, our homes have become our sanctuary and plants have played a key role in helping to create calm and peace.”
The setting has been designed to showcase how plants can be used within indoor spaces and balconies, whether in low light or bright lit areas, to add a jungle like edge to the interior space.
With sustainability and health at the heart of their design, Keep Calm – Grow British will also emphasises the importance of supporting our growers and nurseries here in the UK, responsible plant sourcing and investing in British horticulture.
