Garden Offices – The Art of Versatility

Malvern Garden Buildings not only have an impressive range of garden rooms but also a long list of customers who avoid the commute and choose to work from home by installing a garden office.

Having studied horticulture and garden design at college, Sally-Ann boasts an array of work achievements including the development of a sensory garden to stimulate the interests of children with learning difficulties – one of her fondly remembered social garden projects. Although trained in horticulture, Sally’s passion lies in painting and she has been practicing as a fine artist for many years. Sally-Ann started working from her front room initially but found that because of constraints on materials such as oil paints and space limitations with a young family, she needed another solution. Somewhere she could work with oily materials and store them away safely when not in use.

Seeing Malvern Garden Buildings at an exhibition, Sally-Ann was immediately struck by the aesthetics and practicality of the Studio Pavilion, a 24’ x 10’  outdoor office that would fit perfectly into the allocated space in her garden. She also wanted a building that would be a focal point in the garden that would be complimented for its appearance. Taking note of any boundary requirements and with the building under the height restriction for planning permission, the family committed to the garden office.

With a young family and a large garden, the Studio Pavilion was the perfect choice for Sally-Ann, featuring a large open seating area, her family could entertain friends or enjoy time overlooking their garden while the children played. As the building was situated in a cool spot in the garden, it also meant that on hot Summer days it was a welcome retreat away from the sun. On the converse, the outside seating area’s outdoor lights and powerful heater kept the chill away when seated outside by night, allowing her friends and family a little longer to enjoy the space. Sally-Ann explained that her husband was a BBQ enthusiast and that on occasions over thirty people may frequent their garden; for this reason,  the pavilion provided the extra room to accommodate the guests.

The Malvern Studio Pavilion has proven to be the ideal garden office all year round due to its double-glazed windows and indoor heater, and continues to prove it versatility – the built-in storage area can  be used to store Sally’s artwork materials but she advised that this area had already been taken for lawn mowers, sheers and other gardening equipment, something that the family also needed as their shed was occupied with the family’s bikes and other items.

When we asked the family if they were pleased with their building, they couldn’t have been happier to show us around, proudly explaining how maintenance free and easy the office has been since it’s install 5 years ago. Pointing out their garage door, which they have found requires regular maintenance to deal with peeling paint, the family are delighted that the garden office maintains its good condition with a well-built roof, no leakage evidence and no peeling.

Malvern Garden buildings are proud of the high praise we are awarded by our customers and encourage existing and new customers to visit one of our four showsites to explore the wide range of garden offices and other complementary garden buildings on display and within the Malvern portfolio.
