Get your greenhouse ready

Get your greenhouse ready

It may still be a little chilly outside at the moment, but the growing season is nearly upon us. And that’s why at Malvern Garden Buildings, we are preparing you for another successful season of gardening and growing with our event Ready, set, grow! Taking place during February at our Staffordshire and Greater London showsites, our team are on hand to help you find the perfect greenhouse to learn or enhance your gardening skills in. Plus with up to 50% off selected greenhouses during the event, 2018 could be your best year in the garden yet!

And right now is the perfect time to get your greenhouse ready for growing! Here are a few of our top tips to help get you prepared for the season ahead.

Super savvy storage: Having a good storage solution in your greenhouse will allow you to maximise the space you have available and make it work harder for you. Use tall shelving to sit all of your tools, pots and seeds in and keep the floor area clear, or use spare pots to house all of your bits and bobs. A tidy greenhouse allows for a tidy grower’s mind.

Zone it: If you’re planning on growing a few different things this year, you need to think about zoning your greenhouse. Maybe have one side for your edibles such as fruits, veggies and herbs and the other side for your non-edible plants and flowers. This will allow you to remember what is what easily and take care of your seedlings more efficiently.

Use the height: Many people use benches and shelving in a greenhouse and often forget about the vertical height available. Of course, we don’t want to block out that glorious sun beaming in through the roof, but try hanging some string from one end to the other and peg up your gloves and little bits and bobs. They won’t be in the way and will be easy to find when you need them.

Hand tools: Every grower needs a good selection of hand tools, particularly in the early stages of potting and nuturing those little seedlings. Keep them all together in a spare pot, old paint pot or glass jam jar so you can easily select your ‘weapon’ of choice when working in the greenhouse.

Planner: Good growing needs good planning. So pop the kettle on, grab a notepad and start your plan! What do you want to grow this year? What equipment do you need and how much space do you need? When will you be harvesting each item? How much work does each require and what yield are you hoping for? Put your plan together and either stick it up in the greenhouse or keep it in your notepad with a pen handy to note down your progress and plans as they grow and change throughout the year.

Still not sure if your garden or greenhouse are up to the challenge? Then join us for our Ready, set, grow! event and you could find your dream greenhouse and have it in your garden just in time to get growing in 2018 – and with up to 50% off! Giving you more budget to spend on growing materials. Perfect!
