Meet The Plant Workshop

The Plant Workshop began life as a doorstep plant delivery service in the North East of England, just at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Dave’s love of houseplants and interiors slowly started to take over his and husband Steve’s lives, and Steve quite literally said: “You could open a shop with all these plants!” So, they did!

Their RHS Chelsea entry, The Grass Is Greener Where You Water It, will encourage visitors to curate their own plant utopia, to invite wellness into their homes.

A family business bringing a sense of positivity and purpose

Dave and Steve from The Plant Workshop

Husbands Dave and Steve (not to forget springer spaniel Winston) founded their family business, The Plant Workshop, which offers a fabulous selection of indoor plants, accessories and home fragrance.

Driven by a desire to work for himself, Dave left his role as a dietician to focus on his love for interior design and indoor houseplants, and from there The Plant Workshop was born!

During the pandemic the business grew rapidly, as a result of Dave and Steve selling plants across social media during lockdown. People were loving the nurturing element of looking after plants.

The Plant Workshop has built a reputation for outstanding customer service, with a wealth of expertise to help customers find exactly what they’re looking for. They now have three stores across the North East including a space at Fenwick in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The whole team at The Plant Workshop take great pride in instilling confidence in current, new and aspiring ‘plant parents’ and offer workshops in store.

Meg and Kirsty from the Fenwick store will be accompanying Dave and Steve at the 2022 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

As a result of the pandemic, many people welcomed a new way of working, with their home becoming their office. For some, they may be unsure how to have the perfect balance between the two.

The Plant Workshop’s design is centred around creating a more nurturing, productive and stress-reducing environment through the use of indoor plants and their abundant benefits.

Dave said: “Through materials and staging we want to highlight the relatability of our design, combining textures and sensory elements. A relaxed area and an invitational work from home area, the design showcases how visitors can create the perfect balance.”

“It is going to be a bit of an exaggeration of what we think an amazing home office would look like.”

Plenty of furniture from Dave and Steve’s own home in Teesside features amongst their design, including a much beloved, old school-style desk which plants will trail out from.

“It has to be practical, so we are going to have a work from home space and on the other side the area will be a more relaxed area – where you can sit peacefully with a coffee.”

“Sometimes we can work on phones and computers a bit too much. We need to just make sure we have that down time.”

The Plant Workshop will create a beautiful and inclusive work from home space, balancing productivity and downtime, which can be enjoyed by all and replicate a sense of sanctuary irrespective of locality, space or budget.
