Floor Construction

Floor bearers

Floor bearers are 2′′ x 2′′ (45 x 45mm) pressure treated lengths of timber which run in an opposite direction to the floor joists making a crisscross formation, allowing good air circulation and ventilation to your garden building. They also take away direct contact from the base and help prevent damp from attacking the timbers. They also provide extra support for the flooring above.

If there is a chance of pooling around the base of the building, bearers will help to stop the floor from getting wet. They can be used as an extra precaution in situations where the base is larger than the building.

Heavy duty redwood floor

You can upgrade to a heavy duty 19mm redwood floor from the standard 13mm tongue and groove timber floorboards. If your building has pressure treated cladding, the heavy duty floor will be 19mm pressure treated redwood. Heavy duty redwood floor comes as standard in Heavy Duty Sheds and Office range buildings.
